New additions to the website this month include an article and some photos from Helen Audley on the trip to the bell foundry at Loughborough for the casting of their new treble. The augmentation plans at Roos are now well advanced and by the middle of next year we will have another ring of six in our area. See the event page on the website for the article.
Also posted this month is the BnD newsletter which is available to download from the home page in pdf format. Included in the newsletter are menus and booking forms for the BnD Annual Dinner, this year to be held at the Wiilerby Manor Hotel. Entertainment is to be provided once again by the Hayriders for energetic ceilidh dancing.
An addition to the BnD contact details on the Contact page is Ann Wood as the society Child Protection Officer, Ann should be your first point of contact on any issues or advice concerning young ringers.
Coming to the end of the year it is also time to start thinking about any information for inclusion in the Annual report, tower changes, tower reports, quarters and peals need to be posted as promptly as possible so that the report editor does not need to chase content close to the publishing deadline.

The Society sends its warmest congratulations to John Speak, tower captain at All Saints, Market Weighton, on being awarded the MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. John receives the award for "services to local government" through his work in the fire service of which he has been a member for 35 years. He is and has been for almost 20 years officer in charge at Market Weighton Fire Station and is currently ranked as Watch Manager. Many have been the times when, in the midst of ringing at Market Weighton, John's bleep alarm has gone off followed by a rapid stand and an even more rapid departure from the tower in the direction of the Fire Station. At the practice on Wednesday evening, the increased deference John received was quite marked.
Well done John.

It has been bought to my attention that Mark Lane's website has now been taken down, assumedly by Mark’s ISP. All of the BnD Peal and Quarter data has already been imported into the main society database here at bnd.org.uk.
Mark had also gathered many peals of historical interest not rung for the society in the area, some dating back to the 1800’s. All this data has been preserved and can still be accessed at www.bnd.org.uk/marklane/
Chris Baxter, webmaster.

The society is saddened to hear of the death today (13/11/2006) of Wilfrid F Moreton. Whilst never a resident member of the BnD Wilf gave freely of his time to help the BnD during the 60’s and early 70’s when the ringing capability of the society was progressing towards more complex methods.
Wilf rang in 24 society Peals and conducted 19 of these. Also Wilf would frequently travel across from Wakefield to help out at special practices during a period when there were no accomplished conductors in the area capable of calling and from these practices upcoming local conductors learnt the ‘dark arts’ with Wilf’s guidance.
More recently Wilf donated one of the trebles for the augmentation at Flamborough.

Now that the major re-write of the society web site has been completed we hope to offer the most comprehensive on-line record collection for any society.
To keep these records however will need the help of all peal and quarter peal conductors.
If you call peals or quarters that for the society please email details to peals@bnd.org.uk or quarters@bnd.org.uk for inclusion. This also applies to any quarters that you may have details of that are not currently on the site.

At St. Andrew's Kirk Ella, where he was a ringer, he played an important role in raising funds for and organising the augmentation of the bells in the 1970s.
